Candle Making Courses in Minsk: From Hobby to Professional Mastery
Creating a candle is not just pouring wax into a jar. It is a fine tuning between the chemistry of materials and the aesthetics of design. Recently, "candle making" has become one of the most sought-after skills in the creative business sector. But how do you go from your first "smoking" candle to a professional product?
Material Science: Why is paraffin yesterday's news?
In our courses at MAKA Art, we teach you to work with premium plant waxes. Let's analyze the differences:
1. Soy Wax
The market leader. It has excellent aroma return, is eco-friendly, and burns 2 times longer than paraffin. When burning, it doesn't emit soot or carcinogens. This is the wax most niche candle brands work with.
2. Coconut Wax
Provides a smooth, creamy surface even after the first solidification. It has a low melting point, making the candle safe (the wax can be used as massage oil). More expensive than soy, but the result is worth the investment.
3. Beeswax
A traditional material with a natural honey scent. Suitable for rolled candles and decorative molds. Burns with a steady flame and cleans the air. It's the easiest to work with, but aromatization is limited.
Why not paraffin?
Paraffin is a refined petroleum product. When burning, it emits toluene and benzene, which pollute indoor air. Moreover, paraffin candles burn faster and hold scents poorly. We consciously work only with plant waxes.
Technical nuances: what video tutorials keep silent about
Many beginners encounter the problem that their candle does not smell or "cries" (secretes drops of oil). During the training, we process three critical points in detail:
Aromatic load
How to calculate the percentage of oil input (usually 7–10%) and at what temperature to introduce it so that it binds with the wax molecules, rather than evaporating. Too little oil—the candle doesn't smell. Too much—the oil "sweats" on the surface. On the course, we teach you to find the balance for each specific fragrance.
Wick Selection
This is the "heart" of the candle. We teach you to choose between cotton threads and wooden wicks, which create a cozy crackling fireplace effect. An error of 1 mm in wick thickness can lead to the candle burning too actively (forming a "tunnel") or fading. In the class, you will test several options and understand the logic behind the selection.
Adhesion
Why does the wax pull away from the walls of the glass and how to achieve adherence using pre-heating of the container? This is one of those problems that drives novice candlemakers crazy. At the master class, we show a simple trick that solves this problem forever.
Choosing fragrances: Home perfumery
Our library features over 40 premium fragrances from French manufacturers. Some popular directions:
- Warm: Tobacco & Vanilla, Sandalwood & Amber, Cashmere & Musk
- Fresh: Sea Salt & Orchid, Fresh Linen, Morning Cotton
- Gourmand: Coffee & Caramel, Fig & Honey, Chocolate & Cinnamon
- Floral: Peony & Rose, Jasmine & Neroli, Lavender & Mint
- Seasonal: Pine & Mandarin (winter), Strawberry & Basil (summer)
In the class, you will learn to combine fragrances, creating layered aromatic compositions—not just a "smelly candle", but true perfume for the home.
Decorating: From Simple to Professional
A professional candle implies more than just aroma. We teach you to work with:
- Dried flowers: How to place petals and buds so they do not catch fire
- Shimmer and glitter: Burn-safe additives that give a sparkle
- Colored layers: Gradient and contrast layer techniques
- Wooden wicks: How to choose the width and process for an even burn
- Containers: Glass jars, concrete planters, ceramic cups—which format for which wax
Candle Making as a Business
For many of our guests, the master class becomes the entry point into their own business. Creating a candle brand requires minimal investment in equipment, but maximum in knowledge.
What do you need to start?
- Basic kit: Melting pot, thermometer, scale, wax, fragrances, wicks, containers—from 200 BYN
- Workspace: Even a kitchen will do (but with good ventilation)
- Packaging: Craft boxes, logo stickers, ingredient labels
We provide a verified base of suppliers in Belarus so that you do not waste money on dubious materials. We also analyze pricing: how to calculate the cost and set a price so that the business is profitable.
Candle Making as Therapy
Besides commerce, this is a powerful meditative practice. Working with scents—and in our library there are over 40 premium fragrances—allows you to relieve stress and focus on the "here and now". It is no coincidence that candle making is the most popular format for bachelorette parties and women's evenings: warm wax, gentle aromas, and soft music create an atmosphere where it is impossible not to relax.
We covered the therapeutic effect of creativity in more detail in the article on art therapy.
