What is Fluid Art?

It literally translates as "liquid art". Acrylic paint is diluted to the consistency of liquid honey with a special medium. Then different colors are poured onto the canvas, mixed, flow, and create incredible abstract patterns that resemble snapshots of space or slices of stones.

The Secret of "Cells"

You have probably seen these mesmerizing bubbles in paintings. Do you think they are drawn with a brush? No! It's pure physics.

A few drops of silicone oil are added to the paint. Silicone is lighter than paint, so it tends to rise to the surface, breaking the layer of pigment. With the help of a gas torch, we help the silicone come out, and hundreds of beautiful cells are born right before our eyes.

Popular Pouring Techniques

• Dirty Pour: The most popular method. All colors are poured into one cup in layers. Then this "cocktail" is poured onto the canvas. The result is a color explosion.
• Flip Cup: A cup with paints is turned upside down onto the canvas, but not lifted immediately. We wait a couple of seconds for the paint to settle, and then sharply lift it. The "wow" effect is guaranteed.
• Puddle Pour: You pour paints in separate puddles on top of each other, and then blow them with a hair dryer or tilt the canvas. This allows you to have more control over the composition.

Why should you try this?

1. 100% success: It's impossible to ruin a painting. If you don't like the pattern, you just add more paint or tilt the canvas in another direction.
2. Uniqueness: You cannot repeat the same drawing twice, even if you really want to. You will have an exclusive.
3. Meditation: Watching the paint flow is hypnosis. All thoughts evaporate.

What do you need for Fluid Art?

If you want to try it at home, here is a minimal kit:

• Acrylic paints (any will do, starting at 5 BYN per tube)
• Pouring Medium—the main ingredient
• Silicone oil—for creating cells
• Canvas on a stretcher
• Plastic cups and stirring sticks
• Gas torch (a kitchen one will do)

But it's easier to come to a master class, where all this is already present, and the master will show you the correct proportions.

Caring for a Fluid Art Painting

A finished liquid acrylic painting is quite unpretentious:

• Do not hang in direct sunlight—acrylic can fade.
• Wipe dust with a soft, dry cloth.
• A varnish coating (we apply it in the studio) protects the painting for decades.
